Computer Tune-ups
Tune ups are not some thing that you normally think about for your computer. But just like your car they need regular maintenance. And like your car your computer will run better and longer with some regular TLC.
One of the first things to do is keep your operating system up-to-date by going to their web site and downloading all the patches and hot fixes for your particular OS.
Once that is done check for driver updates for all your hardware. Make sure to follow the manufacture's instructions on how to up date their products.
Ok now that we have all of the up dates lets try to clean up Windows®. Left click on the Internet Explorer icon. Then scroll down to properties and left click. Next on the general tab click on the tab delete cookies. After that's done click on the tab delete files and check the box to delete all off line content then click ok. This will remove all the cached web pages from your browser.
Next go to start>programs>accessories>system tools and click on disk cleanup. Run that program and let it clean up any old or temp files.
Next run the disk check utility letting it fix all the files. In Windows 98® you will find it in the system tools. In Windows XP® right click on your C drive and go to tools. This assures that problems don't escalate to the point where you're losing important data files or programs stop working.
After the disk check utility is finished then go back to the system tools and run the disk defragmenter that is built in to Windows®. Defragmenting your hard disk periodically will help keep it running well.
If you perform these maintenance tasks on a regular basis your computer will stay running like new. Insuring less down time and more enjoyment of your computer.
